The mountain environment in Britain, particularly the west coast of Scotland is more than a little changeable, 4 seasons in one mountain day are not uncommon. Suitable clothing is key to a successful adventure, it should be comfortable, warm and fast-drying, and despite the sunshine in the Glen it essential to bring an effective waterproof jacket and trousers.  

Recommended Clothing and Equipment

 The following clothing if not worn should be carried in a small rucksack and packed in plastic bags to keep dry. 

  • Wicking base layer. 
  • Micro fleece or mid layer. 
  • A fleece jacket or other warm outer jacket or Softshell. 
  • Waterproof jacket. 
  • Waterproof trousers. 
  • Comfortable hiking trousers – (no jeans or cotton jogging trousers they collect water, lose their insulation properties and make you very cold! 
  • Hiking boots - comfortable and worn in, not worn out! 
  • Walking socks. 
  • Gloves and warm hat. 
  • Water and food with high-energy snacks to graze on throughout the day. 
  • Sunblock, sun hat, sun-glasses. 
  • Insect repellent and/or a midge headnet (essential!). 
  • Toilet paper and feminine hygiene products, if required, with sealing plastic bag to take off the mountain. 
  • A headtorch and spare batteries. 
  • Personal 1st Aid Kit, and any personal medication.
